Day 7

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:16-19

As we finish Hebrews 3 today, we have the final questions of who did not believe God. God, through the writer of Hebrews, makes it clear that the Israelites were the ones who willingly did not believe God. We can also provoke God when we’re unwilling to listen to Him through His Holy Spirit who lives in us and unwilling to listen to His Word. God is our King, our Creator, our Master, our Lord, and when we willingly disobey Him and His Word, then we provoke Him. This does not mean God does not love us, but it means that we are voluntarily turning away from our intimacy with Him and killing our fellowship with Him. We are missing out on God’s blessings when we willingly disobey. God loves to bless His children, but that does not mean we will not face tests and trials. When we think of blessings too often, we think of material things, because that is the world in which we live. We need to understand that material things will never last, never satisfy, never meet our deepest needs, never fulfill us, and never sustain us. God’s greatest blessing is that we belong to Him, that we will one day reign with Him forever. This world in which we live is not our home, therefore whatever this world has to offer us should not be our focus. We must pursue Him and His Word and walk in obedience to Him, for then we will enter His Promised Land forever.

Day 1

Hebrews 3:1 begins with the word “There- fore.” Many years ago, from Precept Ministries, I learned that anytime you see a “therefore” in the Bible, you need to ask yourself, “What’s the ‘therefore’ there for?” We learned, in Hebrews 2, that Jesus is our High Priest. Since Christ is our High Priest, His sacrifice of Himself did not cover our s...

Day 2

Our Lord Jesus Christ was completely faithful to God the Father’s perfect will. We know that Jesus never did anything His Father had not al- ready commanded Him to do, for this is clearly shared by our Lord Jesus Christ in John 4:34; John 5:19, 30, 36; John 6:38; John 8:28-29; John 12:49; John 14:10; John 15:10; John 17:4. Because the book of...

Day 3

God the Father makes it clear here in Hebrews 3:7 that the Holy Spirit spoke these words in Psalm 95 and that because it is God the Spirit speaking these words, we better pay close attention. Of course, we need to pay close attention to ALL of God’s Word, every day of our lives, but for today we are paying close attention to His Word written ...

Day 4

Today we are warned by God, through the writer of Hebrews, to be incredibly careful that no one has an unbelieving, wicked heart. God, through His Holy Spirit, led the apostle John to deal with this matter as well in 1 John 5:9-10, “If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testi- mony of God is this, that H...

Day 5

Today, in Hebrews 3:14, God assures the first believers who read this letter, who were facing per- secution, that everyone who claims to know Christ must “hold firm our newborn confidence [which originally led us to Him] until the end,” (AMP Bible). In other words, a true believer in Christ will trust in Him and will obey Him. The evidence of...

Day 6

We continue on this journey, in Hebrews 3:15, of not just hearing God and His Word, but to make sure we do not harden our hearts to what God teaches us. The writer of Hebrews continues to use the Israelites as the example of those who heard God but hardened their hearts to what they heard. The Israelite adults, who were delivered from Egypt, ...
