Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:16-19
As we finish Hebrews 3 today, we have the final questions of who did not believe God. God, through the writer of Hebrews, makes it clear that the Israelites were the ones who willingly did not believe God. We can also provoke God when we’re unwilling
to listen to Him through His Holy Spirit who lives in us and unwilling to listen to His Word. God is our King, our Creator, our Master, our Lord, and when we willingly disobey Him and His Word, then we provoke Him. This does not mean God does not love us, but it means that we are voluntarily turning away from our intimacy with Him and killing our fellowship with Him. We are missing out on God’s blessings when we willingly disobey. God loves to bless His children, but that does not mean we will not face tests and trials. When we think of blessings too often, we think of material things, because that is the world in which we live. We need to understand that material things will never last, never satisfy, never meet our deepest needs, never fulfill us, and never sustain us. God’s greatest blessing is that we belong to Him, that we will one day reign with Him forever. This world in which we live is not our home, therefore whatever this world has to offer us should not be our focus. We must pursue Him and His Word and walk in obedience to Him, for then we will enter His Promised Land forever.
