Day 5

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:14

Today, in Hebrews 3:14, God assures the first believers who read this letter, who were facing per- secution, that everyone who claims to know Christ must “hold firm our newborn confidence [which originally led us to Him] until the end,” (AMP Bible). In other words, a true believer in Christ will trust in Him and will obey Him. The evidence of a true believer is trust and obe- dience. Does that mean we will never disobey Christ, that we will never have doubts? Absolutely not, but God is telling us that to walk in His favor and blessing is by trusting Him and walking in obedience to His Word. We must “hold fast,” be diligent, be disciplined in our daily walk with our Lord. God used James to layout this truth in James 1:22-25, “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. 25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.” Note, especially James 1:25, that all believers must “do,” which means we must obey in order to walk in God’s blessings.

Day 1

Hebrews 3:1 begins with the word “There- fore.” Many years ago, from Precept Ministries, I learned that anytime you see a “therefore” in the Bible, you need to ask yourself, “What’s the ‘therefore’ there for?” We learned, in Hebrews 2, that Jesus is our High Priest. Since Christ is our High Priest, His sacrifice of Himself did not cover our s...

Day 2

Our Lord Jesus Christ was completely faithful to God the Father’s perfect will. We know that Jesus never did anything His Father had not al- ready commanded Him to do, for this is clearly shared by our Lord Jesus Christ in John 4:34; John 5:19, 30, 36; John 6:38; John 8:28-29; John 12:49; John 14:10; John 15:10; John 17:4. Because the book of...

Day 3

God the Father makes it clear here in Hebrews 3:7 that the Holy Spirit spoke these words in Psalm 95 and that because it is God the Spirit speaking these words, we better pay close attention. Of course, we need to pay close attention to ALL of God’s Word, every day of our lives, but for today we are paying close attention to His Word written ...

Day 4

Today we are warned by God, through the writer of Hebrews, to be incredibly careful that no one has an unbelieving, wicked heart. God, through His Holy Spirit, led the apostle John to deal with this matter as well in 1 John 5:9-10, “If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testi- mony of God is this, that H...

Day 6

We continue on this journey, in Hebrews 3:15, of not just hearing God and His Word, but to make sure we do not harden our hearts to what God teaches us. The writer of Hebrews continues to use the Israelites as the example of those who heard God but hardened their hearts to what they heard. The Israelite adults, who were delivered from Egypt, ...

Day 7

As we finish Hebrews 3 today, we have the final questions of who did not believe God. God, through the writer of Hebrews, makes it clear that the Israelites were the ones who willingly did not believe God. We can also provoke God when we’re unwilling to listen to Him through His Holy Spirit who lives in us and unwilling to listen to His Word....
