Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:12-13
Today we are warned by God, through the writer of Hebrews, to be incredibly careful that no one has an unbelieving, wicked heart. God, through His Holy Spirit, led the apostle John to deal with this matter as well in 1 John 5:9-10, “If we receive the testimony
of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testi- mony of God is this, that He has testified concerning His Son. 10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son.” So, to not believe God the Father’s testimony of Christ the Son is to call God the Father a liar. But, can believ- ers have doubts and fears? Of course we can, but that is not what God is saying here through His Word. God
is dealing with a wicked heart that refuses to believe Him and His Word. So as the writer of Hebrews is led
to write, God is using the writer to tell everyone who is reading this letter to examine our hearts carefully and to make sure that we truly are God’s child and that we are walking in obedience to Him and His Word. Then we’re encouraged to encourage one another as we face the tests and trials of this life. We need that encourage- ment from one another so that we are not straying from our walk with our Lord, no matter how bad the trials may be.
