Day 1

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:1

Hebrews 3:1 begins with the word “There- fore.” Many years ago, from Precept Ministries, I learned that anytime you see a “therefore” in the Bible, you need to ask yourself, “What’s the ‘therefore’ there for?” We learned, in Hebrews 2, that Jesus is our High Priest. Since Christ is our High Priest, His sacrifice of Himself did not cover our sin, as the blood of animals had done for the people for a few 1000 years, but Christ’s blood cleanses us of all our sins. That is why we share in God’s heavenly calling, God’s call upon our lives to become His children through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we know, from the devotions on Hebrews 1, the Christians of this day were suffering incredible persecution. We also face tests and trials each day of our lives. The truth of knowing that we participate in God’s heavenly calling ought to encourage us, every day, to not lose heart in living for our Lord. Christ is also our Apostle, our Ambassador, from God the Fa- ther to us, which should also encourage us. We saw this clearly in Hebrews 1:1-2 “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son...” So our encouragement is knowing that God the Father loves us so much that He sent His Son to speak His Truth to us, and to live His Truth in front of us so we would know Him and follow Him completely.

Challenge & Application

What did you learn today about Christ being your High Priest and your Apostle? Who could use these words of encouragement today? When will you share this with them?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Our Lord Jesus Christ was completely faithful to God the Father’s perfect will. We know that Jesus never did anything His Father had not al- ready commanded Him to do, for this is clearly shared by our Lord Jesus Christ in John 4:34; John 5:19, 30, 36; John 6:38; John 8:28-29; John 12:49; John 14:10; John 15:10; John 17:4. Because the book of...

Day 3

God the Father makes it clear here in Hebrews 3:7 that the Holy Spirit spoke these words in Psalm 95 and that because it is God the Spirit speaking these words, we better pay close attention. Of course, we need to pay close attention to ALL of God’s Word, every day of our lives, but for today we are paying close attention to His Word written ...

Day 4

Today we are warned by God, through the writer of Hebrews, to be incredibly careful that no one has an unbelieving, wicked heart. God, through His Holy Spirit, led the apostle John to deal with this matter as well in 1 John 5:9-10, “If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for the testi- mony of God is this, that H...

Day 5

Today, in Hebrews 3:14, God assures the first believers who read this letter, who were facing per- secution, that everyone who claims to know Christ must “hold firm our newborn confidence [which originally led us to Him] until the end,” (AMP Bible). In other words, a true believer in Christ will trust in Him and will obey Him. The evidence of...

Day 6

We continue on this journey, in Hebrews 3:15, of not just hearing God and His Word, but to make sure we do not harden our hearts to what God teaches us. The writer of Hebrews continues to use the Israelites as the example of those who heard God but hardened their hearts to what they heard. The Israelite adults, who were delivered from Egypt, ...

Day 7

As we finish Hebrews 3 today, we have the final questions of who did not believe God. God, through the writer of Hebrews, makes it clear that the Israelites were the ones who willingly did not believe God. We can also provoke God when we’re unwilling to listen to Him through His Holy Spirit who lives in us and unwilling to listen to His Word....
