Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:7-11
God the Father makes it clear here in Hebrews 3:7 that the Holy Spirit spoke these words in Psalm 95 and that because it is God the Spirit speaking these words, we better pay close attention. Of course, we need to pay close attention to ALL of God’s Word, every day of our lives, but for today we are paying close attention to His Word written in Psalm 95:7-11 and quoted again in Hebrews 3:7-11. We need to ask ourselves, “Am I willing to hear the voice of God?” Then if we are willing to hear God’s voice, we must ask ourselves this, “Am I willing to obey what I hear from God?” God speaks to us every day of our lives through His Holy Spirit, who lives in us. He uses His Word, He uses other mature believers, and He uses our own con- science when our conscience lines up with God’s Word. God is warning, not only the believers to whom the book of Hebrews was originally written, but this is still a warning for all believers today. We must not harden our hearts as the Israelites did at Meribah and Massah (Ex- odus 17:2-7, Numbers 20:1-13; Deuteronomy 6:16). God expects us to trust Him, even when we are facing per- secution, tests, and trials in this life. It’s never easy, but if we are going to overcome the circumstances of this life, we will only do so by trusting our Lord completely (James 1:2-3; 1 Peter 4:12-16).
