Scripture to Read: Hebrews 3:1
Hebrews 3:1 begins with the word “There- fore.” Many years ago, from Precept Ministries, I learned that anytime you see a “therefore” in the Bible, you need to ask yourself, “What’s the ‘therefore’ there for?” We learned, in Hebrews 2, that Jesus is our High Priest. Since Christ is our High Priest, His sacrifice of Himself did not cover our sin, as the blood of animals had done for the people for a few 1000 years, but Christ’s blood cleanses us of all our sins. That is why we share in God’s heavenly calling, God’s call upon our lives to become His children through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we know, from the devotions on Hebrews 1, the Christians of this day were suffering incredible persecution. We also face tests and trials each day of our lives. The truth of knowing that we participate in God’s heavenly calling ought to encourage us, every day, to not lose heart in living for our Lord. Christ is also our Apostle, our Ambassador, from God the Fa- ther to us, which should also encourage us. We saw this clearly in Hebrews 1:1-2 “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son...” So our encouragement is knowing that God the Father loves us so much that He sent His Son to speak His Truth to us, and to live His Truth in front of us so we would know Him and follow Him completely.
