Day 7

Scripture to Read: Luke 10:21-24

Jesus definitely rejoiced as well, as Luke recorded this in Luke 10:21–22, “At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, ‘I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 22 All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.’” Jesus was definitely excited about all the work that God the Father had performed through His servants as He empowered them with His Holy Spirit. Jesus thanked the Father that He had hidden these things from the worldly wise (1 Corinthians 1:27–29). Jesus thanked the Father for opening the eyes of the infants. Jesus mentioned how everything that had been given to Him was from the Father. Jesus took no glory to Himself but made sure that the glory went to the Father. As we worship each day, we give glory to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Jesus finished by reminding the seventy in Luke 10:23–24 that what they had seen and experienced “many prophets and kings wished to see” as well but were never given the opportunity this side of heaven. God has blessed us in much the same way (1 Peter 1:10–12) and we need to thank Him daily for it.

Challenge & Application

Why was Jesus so excited and what did He do to show His excitement? What all have we been given that we should be excited about every day?

Day 1

Jesus knew He had many more cities to go to in order to fulfill all the Father had sent Him to do as Lord and Savior of all mankind. God had Luke record the following in Luke 10:1–2, “Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was s...

Day 2

Jesus described to His seventy disciples what it would be like for them as He sent them to prepare the way for Him. Jesus said in Luke 10:3, “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.” Sending lambs into the midst of wolves seems foolish, but it reminded the disciples that they could not do what Jesus commanded without God’s...

Day 3

Jesus gave further instructions to His seventy disciples. They were to bring a blessing of peace to each house, if the home would receive it. The disciples were not just bringing a greeting, but they were measuring whether this man and his household were ready to hear the Gospel of Peace. The disciples were carrying the Good News from house t...

Day 4

There came a heavy price for the cities that rejected the seventy messengers and their message. Jesus told the seventy in Luke 10:10–11, “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, tha...

Day 5

Jesus laid out some pretty heavy words in Luke 10:16, “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.” As Jesus spoke to the seventy disciples, He told them that the message He gave them to share carried as much weight as if Jesus Himself were delivering the...

Day 6

The seventy had returned, and God had Luke record this about their arrival in Luke 10:17–20: “The seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.’ 18 And He said to them, ‘I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, an...
