Day 1

Scripture to Read: Luke 10:1-2

Jesus knew He had many more cities to go to in order to fulfill all the Father had sent Him to do as Lord and Savior of all mankind. God had Luke record the following in Luke 10:1–2, “Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was saying to them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” Knowing our Lord sent out seventy is a great reminder that there were many disciples following Jesus. The word “Disciple” means “follower,” and Jesus used His followers as His witnesses to all the people in the cities He sent them to. Jesus also sent them in twos as an incredible example for us. We need each other in ministry, and having a companion offers incredible encouragement and support as we do it together. Jesus also mentioned that the harvest field was plentiful but that more laborers were needed. Jesus said the same thing in Matthew 9:37–38. We must take this to heart and pray daily, begging God to send the right skilled laborers to serve Him in His harvest field. God wants to provide, but we must daily ask Him and then prayerfully watch for who He sends our way to serve in His harvest field. God is working mightily today, but more laborers are needed, so pray fervently for God to provide

Challenge & Application

What are some of the advantages of doing ministry alongside someone else? Why is it so critical that we pray according to Luke 10:2 and Matthew 9:37–38?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Jesus described to His seventy disciples what it would be like for them as He sent them to prepare the way for Him. Jesus said in Luke 10:3, “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.” Sending lambs into the midst of wolves seems foolish, but it reminded the disciples that they could not do what Jesus commanded without God’s...

Day 3

Jesus gave further instructions to His seventy disciples. They were to bring a blessing of peace to each house, if the home would receive it. The disciples were not just bringing a greeting, but they were measuring whether this man and his household were ready to hear the Gospel of Peace. The disciples were carrying the Good News from house t...

Day 4

There came a heavy price for the cities that rejected the seventy messengers and their message. Jesus told the seventy in Luke 10:10–11, “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, tha...

Day 5

Jesus laid out some pretty heavy words in Luke 10:16, “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.” As Jesus spoke to the seventy disciples, He told them that the message He gave them to share carried as much weight as if Jesus Himself were delivering the...

Day 7

Jesus definitely rejoiced as well, as Luke recorded this in Luke 10:21–22, “At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, ‘I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in You...
