Day 5

Scripture to Read: Luke 10:16

Jesus laid out some pretty heavy words in Luke 10:16, “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.” As Jesus spoke to the seventy disciples, He told them that the message He gave them to share carried as much weight as if Jesus Himself were delivering the message. The seventy disciples were carrying the Good News of salvation through Christ our Lord. We’ve been given the same message today: to deliver it to everyone we come across. The same is still true, for when we speak God’s Word of Truth, those who listen and receive it are receiving it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the Word of God. That is why God had Paul record this in 1 Thessalonians 2:13, “For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.” The people of Thessalonica knew that what Paul, Timothy, and Silas delivered to them was God’s Word. God has entrusted us to take the Good News of Christ to this world. They need to hear this Good News so they can respond. We’re not responsible for people’s response, but we’re responsible for loving people with the love of Christ (Romans 5:5), so we’ll share with them.

Challenge & Application

What does it feel like knowing you have the responsibility to take God’s Good News to this lost world? How are you doing in carrying out God’s call upon your life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus knew He had many more cities to go to in order to fulfill all the Father had sent Him to do as Lord and Savior of all mankind. God had Luke record the following in Luke 10:1–2, “Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was s...

Day 2

Jesus described to His seventy disciples what it would be like for them as He sent them to prepare the way for Him. Jesus said in Luke 10:3, “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.” Sending lambs into the midst of wolves seems foolish, but it reminded the disciples that they could not do what Jesus commanded without God’s...

Day 3

Jesus gave further instructions to His seventy disciples. They were to bring a blessing of peace to each house, if the home would receive it. The disciples were not just bringing a greeting, but they were measuring whether this man and his household were ready to hear the Gospel of Peace. The disciples were carrying the Good News from house t...

Day 4

There came a heavy price for the cities that rejected the seventy messengers and their message. Jesus told the seventy in Luke 10:10–11, “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, tha...

Day 6

The seventy had returned, and God had Luke record this about their arrival in Luke 10:17–20: “The seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.’ 18 And He said to them, ‘I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, an...

Day 7

Jesus definitely rejoiced as well, as Luke recorded this in Luke 10:21–22, “At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, ‘I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in You...
