Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 10:5-9

Jesus gave further instructions to His seventy disciples. They were to bring a blessing of peace to each house, if the home would receive it. The disciples were not just bringing a greeting, but they were measuring whether this man and his household were ready to hear the Gospel of Peace. The disciples were carrying the Good News from house to house and God was preparing them to meet the Messiah, the One True King of righteousness. For those who received them, their hearts were ready for the fullness of Christ, but for those who would not receive them, their hearts were too cold and calloused to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior. Jesus still wanted them to remain in that house as His witnesses, for perhaps their hearts would be softened as they experienced God’s miraculous work through the disciples. The miracles showed that the Kingdom of God had come with power, so the healing was a part of their preaching. The healing confirmed that God was mightily working and that Christ came to heal them spiritually. The miraculous display of God’s power through the ministry of the seventy helped prepare the people in each city they entered. As they fulfilled the ministry Christ sent them to fulfill, God used them to help prepare the people for the full revelation of God’s power and kingdom in the coming death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. As we share the Gospel, we’re helping people see that Christ has already paid the full price for their sins and that forgiveness is theirs when they surrender to Him as Lord.

Challenge & Application

How can we bring the message of peace to people today so that they can receive Christ as Lord? How have you already been used to share the Gospel with others and how have you seen their lives changed?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus knew He had many more cities to go to in order to fulfill all the Father had sent Him to do as Lord and Savior of all mankind. God had Luke record the following in Luke 10:1–2, “Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2 And He was s...

Day 2

Jesus described to His seventy disciples what it would be like for them as He sent them to prepare the way for Him. Jesus said in Luke 10:3, “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.” Sending lambs into the midst of wolves seems foolish, but it reminded the disciples that they could not do what Jesus commanded without God’s...

Day 4

There came a heavy price for the cities that rejected the seventy messengers and their message. Jesus told the seventy in Luke 10:10–11, “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, tha...

Day 5

Jesus laid out some pretty heavy words in Luke 10:16, “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.” As Jesus spoke to the seventy disciples, He told them that the message He gave them to share carried as much weight as if Jesus Himself were delivering the...

Day 6

The seventy had returned, and God had Luke record this about their arrival in Luke 10:17–20: “The seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.’ 18 And He said to them, ‘I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, an...

Day 7

Jesus definitely rejoiced as well, as Luke recorded this in Luke 10:21–22, “At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, ‘I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in You...
