Scripture to Read: Hebrews 13:7-9
In Hebrews 13:7, God wants us to remember
those who have invested their lives and God’s Word
into us. God also wants us to remember those who are
currently investing their lives and God’s Word into us
now. Those who have poured into our lives are to be
thanked, prayed for, and encouraged by us. Without
these mentors/disciplers, none of us would be where we
are today. Think of the last time you sent an encouraging
note, letter, card, text, or some other form of communication
to the person or people who mentored/discipled
you or who are mentoring/discipling you now. Also, think
about how the mentor/discipler’s godly life impacted
you or is impacting you now. These are people that God
purposely brought into your life to mentor/disciple you
so you would grow broad and deep in your intimacy with
Him and His Word. These mentors/disciplers are worthy
to be imitated because they live their lives in a manner
worthy of our God. We are either being led, or we have
been led so that we in turn will lead others the same way.
In Hebrews 13:8 God also reminds us that our Lord Jesus
Christ is ALWAYS the same. This is a sweet reminder that
our Lord is eternally changeless. Finally, in Hebrews 13:9,
God warns us not to get caught up and carried away by
man-made rules. God’s Truth is sufficient to live this life
for Him. We must diligently seek His Word and walk in His
Truth daily.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you about your mentors, about
Christ, and about man-made teachings?
2. When will you send an encouraging form of communication
to your mentor this week?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
