Scripture to Read: Hebrews 13:4
God shares in Hebrews 13:4 how sacred
marriage is to be held among us. Our society today,
especially here in the USA, treats marriage almost like
dating is treated in middle and high school. People date
for convenience, and once the dating relationship is no
longer fun and exciting, the so-called “couple” will breakup
and try to find someone else who is fun and exciting.
God’s plan for marriage is that marriage be held in high
honor. Marriage should be seen as an incredibly valuable
gift from God and should never be take for granted.
The role of a husband and the role of the wife are clearly
stated in Ephesians 5:21-33, Colossians 3:18-19; 1 Peter
3:1-7 and many other passages as well. God takes marriage
seriously because the husband is to represent Christ
in the marriage as the head of the body and the wife is to
represent the body (the church) within the marriage relationship.
The head and the body are one and they both
are vitally important to carrying out God’s will. The enemy
has placed in the minds of non-believers, and even some
immature believers, the attitude that marriage can be
defined by how you “feel” and not by God’s Truth. We do
NOT have the right to re-define marriage since God has
already defined it for us. We must adhere to God’s design
for marriage. Those who choose to do marriage any other
way will reap the consequences of their disobedience.
Challenge & Application
1. What did you learn today that you did not know before
about marriage and the role of the husband and
the wife?
2. How are you guarding your heart and marriage spiritually,
physically, sexually, financially, etc…if you’re
married? How are you guarding yourself spiritually,
physically, sexually, financially, etc…for your future
mate, if you’re not married?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
