Scripture to Read: Hebrews 13:5-6
A great question we all need to ask ourselves
each day is this, “What or who do I passionately
love?” We know God has commanded us to love Him, to
love each other, and to love the lost. Today God tells us
what we should NOT love. God does not want us to get
hooked on loving money. We know we need finances to
buy food, clothes, shelter and other necessities of life, but
we should never love the money God gives us. What and
who we love is a choice and if we’re not careful, we’ll start
loving the things of this life, the things of this world, more
than we love our Lord, His Word, and others. We must
choose to turn away from being greedy. We must choose
to be financially moral; being wise stewards of what we
know comes from God. We must practice being content
with what we already have. Our “flesh” is never satisfied;
that is why when we see something newer than what we
have or something new we don’t have we begin to rationalize
why we must have that item. Contentment comes
when we are passionately pursuing our intimacy with our
Lord Jesus Christ and His Word. Contentment is not automatic
and it’s not something that once we have it that we
never have to worry about it going away. We have to daily
take comfort in God and His Truth, remembering that He
will never leave us, that He is our Helper, and that we can
walk in this life without fear.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you about loving money today
that you did not know before?
2. How are you guarding your heart from loving money,
or anything else, more than God, His Word, and others?
