Scripture to Read: Genesis 41:1-13
Joseph was still in prison, but God continued to move on Joseph’s behalf. Remember, Joseph had been sold into slavery at 17 years of age. At this point, we’re still not sure how many years Joseph has been in prison. God reveals to us today, though, that from the time the chief cupbearer was restored to his position in Pharaoh’s service, two more years had gone by before Pharaoh had his dreams. That means that Joseph continued to be held in prison and serve our Lord faithfully. In Genesis 41:1-13, Pharaoh's dreams are described for us. The morning after Pharaoh's dreams, Pharaoh awoke incredibly troubled because he had no clue what the dreams meant. According to Genesis 41:8, Pharaoh sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all its wise men. And Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh. So, Pharaoh went to the only source he knew for answers, his magicians and wise men. But the people Pharaoh counted on failed him. Pharaoh couldn't find anyone to interpret his dreams and that's when the chief cupbearer remembered that Joseph had interpreted his dream two years earlier. Remember though, Joseph was not the one who interpreted the chief cupbearer's dream, but God had given Joseph the interpretation. Too often, people who have no relationship with God will forget how God has worked on their behalf but instead will remember who God used to do His work in their life. As God uses us for His purposes, let's be sure to give Him the glory that He alone deserves.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about how He uses His children to minister to others’ needs?
2. How has God used you to minister to someone, and how did you glorify our Lord by giving Him all of the credit for what He did through you?
