Day 1

Scripture to Read: Genesis 40:1-8

So, last week we ended with Joseph being thrown into prison. Remember, he was wrongly accused by Potiphar’s wife of trying to take advantage of her sexually. The awesome news is that God continued to use Joseph for His glory and praise, as we saw in Genesis 39:20-23, and that the Chief Jailer had given Joseph charge of many things while he was in prison. This week we’ll see what God has to say to us in Genesis 40 & 41. As we read Genesis 40:1-8, both the chief cupbearer and the chief baker for the king of Egypt (Pharaoh) were thrown into the same prison that Joseph was in. In some way, both the chief cupbearer and the chief baker offended Pharaoh, which made Pharaoh (the king of Egypt) incredibly angry. While the chief cupbearer and the chief baker were in prison, they both had dreams the same night but when they awoke the following day, they were depressed because there was no one to interpret their dreams. Joseph came to where they were being held in prison to take care of them, saw that they were depressed, and asked them what was wrong. They both told Joseph that they had dreams, but they were depressed because no one could interpret their dreams for them. Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please.” Joseph’s response shows us that Joseph had close fellowship with God. Joseph trusted in God and knew God could give these men the answers they were seeking.

Challenge & Application

1. God has given us His Spirit in us and His Word to give us the answers we need for each day, so how are you pursuing God and His Word each day? 2. How have you seen God use you to share His truth with others who are looking for answers in this life?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

God reveals to us today, though, that from the time the chief cupbearer was restored to his position in Pharaoh’s service, two m...
