Day 3

Scripture to Read: Genesis 40:9-23

Yesterday, we saw how God used Joseph to interpret the dreams that both the chief cupbearer and the chief baker had dreamed. Once Joseph finished interpreting the dreams, he asked the chief cupbearer for a favor. God’s Word records Joseph saying, in Genesis 40:14-15, “Only keep me in mind when it goes well with you, and please do me a kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house. 15 For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon.” For the first time, we find recorded that Joseph is requesting some help from someone else. Joseph simply asked that the chief cupbearer remember him and mention him to Pharaoh once the chief cupbearer was restored to his position. We have to wonder, even if the chief cupbearer had asked Pharaoh to release Joseph if it would have made any difference. We’ll never know because God’s Word clearly records this in Genesis 40:23, Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him. Once the chief cupbearer was restored to his position, he completely forgot about Joseph. There have been times in our lives when people have failed us. Also, each of us has failed others when we have been asked to do something for them. What we must remember is that God NEVER fails us. He is continually working on our behalf, even when we don’t recognize His handiwork.

Challenge & Application

1. What is the best way to deal with those who fail us or when we fail others? (Read Galatians 6:1-2 & Romans 15:1-3 for help.) 2. How have you lovingly restored someone who has failed you, or how have you sought forgiveness from someone you have failed?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

So, last week we ended with Joseph being thrown into prison. Remember, he was wrongly accused by Potiphar’s wife of trying to take advantage of her sexually. The awesome news is that God continued to use Joseph for His glory and praise, as we saw in Genesis 39:20-23, and that the Chief Jailer had given Joseph charge of many things while he wa...

Day 2

God wants us to be able to lead others to Him and His Truth just as God used Joseph to share truth with the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. As we know, God has given us His Holy Spirit and God has given us His Holy Word. God and His Word guide, direct, nourish, and protect us each day through His Holy Spirit in us. We must choose to pass...

Day 4

Joseph was still in prison, but God continued to move on Joseph’s behalf. Remember, Joseph had been sold into slavery at 17 years of age. At this point, we’re still not sure how many years Joseph has been in prison. God reveals to us today, though, that from the time the chief cupbearer was restored to his position in Pharaoh’s service, two m...

Day 5

As we saw yesterday, Pharaoh had his dreams and wanted to know what his dreams meant. So, Pharaoh asked to see Joseph immediately. When Joseph came into Pharaoh’s presence, Pharaoh told Joseph, “I have had a dream, but no one can interpret it; and I have heard it said about you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.” So, Pharaoh le...

Day 6

God continually worked in and through Joseph because Joseph chose to follow God, even when his circumstances were far from perfect. As Joseph had been brought before Pharaoh, he was ready to be used by God again to share the interpretation God would give to him. So, Pharaoh shared his dreams with Joseph, hoping to get an answer to what his dr...

Day 7

As we finish up this week, we must remember that Joseph had told Pharaoh in Genesis 41:33 “Now let Pharaoh look for a man discerning and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.” After hearing everything, Pharaoh’s response showed his trust in Joseph, and Pharaoh acknowledged what God had given to Joseph in Genesis 41:39-40, So Pharaoh said ...
