Day 7

Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:23

Many people hear the Gospel of Christ and are initially excited about being saved from their sin. But the sad news is that many never truly surrender to Christ because they are unwilling to die to themselves and live fully for Christ. God had Paul give a warning as we read in Colossians 1:23, “if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.” At first glance, this sounds like someone can lose their salvation, but that is not the case. God wants us to understand that if someone can be “moved away from the hope of the gospel” then all they did was hear it but they never surrendered to it. God tells us in 1 John 2:6, “the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” Just because someone says that they have accepted Christ as God and Savior and surrender to Him as Lord, the true evidence will be their daily walk with Christ. We are to live our lives so others see Christ through us. We must conduct ourselves as Christ did when He walked this earth. That is why Jesus told us in John 15:4, “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me."

Challenge & Application

What does it mean to abide in Christ, to walk as He walked, to continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast? How are you daily abiding in Christ, walking as He walked, and continuing in the faith firmly established and steadfast?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God loves us so much that He came in the Person of Jesus, revealing Himself in bodily form, and He laid down His life for the entire human race. God led Paul to describe our Lord Jesus Christ to the believers in Colossae in Colossians 1:15–20. We read in Colossians 1:15, “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” G...

Day 2

When we consider God’s creation, it is magnificent and truly displays God’s power, glory, and majesty. We read in Psalm 19:1, “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” Then, we also read in Isaiah 6:3, “And one called out to another and said, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, t...

Day 3

God is eternal; therefore, He has no beginning and there will never be an end to Him. God had Paul write it this way in Colossians 1:17: “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” It’s hard for us to imagine God having always been, because we live by time. We measure our days, weeks, months, and years by time. We wear a w...

Day 4

God the Father, Son, and Spirit are Three but also One. We read in Colossians 1:19, “For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him.” God the Father was pleased for all of His fullness, all of His perfection, all of His powers, and all of His attributes to permanently live in Christ the Son. When Jesus came to eart...

Day 5

Sometimes it’s important to remember what Christ has saved us from so that we fully appreciate the incredible gift of His love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, and restoration that He has and continually gives to us. We read in Colossians 1:21, “And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds.” The description i...

Day 6

We know what we used to be, but now that we’ve surrendered to Christ, we’re different. God had Paul write this in Colossians 1:22: “yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.” God reminds us that Christ Himself reconciled us (reunited us, brought ...
