Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:19–20
God the Father, Son, and Spirit are Three but also One. We read in Colossians 1:19, “For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him.” God the Father was pleased for all of His fullness, all of His perfection, all of His powers, and all of His attributes to permanently live in Christ the Son. When Jesus came to earth, He was 100% God and He was 100% man—again, a hard concept for us to grasp but nonetheless absolutely true. When Christ came to earth, He was already God, but He came as God in a fleshly shell so He could be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. God the Father was pleased with God the Son as God the Son willingly surrendered Himself to God the Father’s perfect will so we could be set free from the power and penalty of sin. Christ became our perfect offering and sacrifice to God the Father and a fragrant aroma to God the Father when He died for us (Ephesians 5:2). Then, we read in Colossians 1:20, “and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” It was through Jesus that God the Father reconciled (restored) us to Himself. When we surrendered to Christ as Lord, we were put back into a right relationship with God the Father for eternity. Christ’s blood also united us together and brought peace to us with everything in heaven and on earth.
Challenge & Application
Why is it hard for us to comprehend Jesus being 100% God and 100% man at the same time?
Why is it important to understand that we’ve been completely reconciled to God the Father?
