Scripture to Read: 2 Thessalonians 1:7
Our Lord God Almighty is going to have the final word in all things one day. For all of us, as Christians, there are times when we would like God to go ahead and have that final word right now. Now, to look for our Lord’s return ought to be something we long for, so that is not a bad thing. God tells us in Titus 2:13 that we need to be “looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.” God tells us again in 2 Peter 3:11-12 “Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat!” Then God reminds us in Philippians 3:20 that this is not our home, and that is why we eagerly wait for the return of our Lord “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” To know that we are temporarily here on this earth is great news for all believers. It is also great news here in 1 Thessalonians 1:7, for God is going to give His relief to every one of His children who suffered affliction in this life. We, as believers, have a lot to look forward to when our Lord returns.
