Scripture to Read: 2 Thessalonians 1:6
God is sovereign, which means He is completely in charge of all things. Sometimes it is hard for us to understand that God is in charge because of all the evil and suffering in this world. The problem is not with God, but the problem is when we start thinking that this world is our home and that this world ought to be better than what it is. As Christians, this world is definitely not our home, and God makes this fact clear in His Word. Also, because of sin, there is suffering, evil, and death in this world (Romans 15:18; 1 Corinthians 15:21-24). The Good News is that we, as Christians, have been set free from the consequences of sin because of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. What we have not been set free from are the tests, trials, tribulations, and even persecution in this life. God reminds us today in 2 Thessalonians 1:6 that He will bring His justice upon all of those who bring evil upon His children. We often want to bring our vengeance upon those who have persecuted us, or who have persecuted one of our brothers or sisters in Christ. God desires that we rest in Him and trust in Him completely, even when that means waiting for His justice to take place. God even gives us, as Christians, this warning in Romans 12:19 “Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

2. Who will you share this truth with this week about trusting God to be their avenger?
