Day 3

Scripture to Read: Romans 3:28

Yesterday, we touched on the fact that our “good works” are the evidence to others that we belong to Christ and that He is Lord of our lives. So, let’s examine our “good works” a little more. God had James, who grew up as the half-brother of Jesus, deal with how important our “good works” are in showing others we belong to Christ. In James 2:14–26, God had James ask some great questions, showing everyone that faith without “good works” is absolutely worthless. God even had James write this in James 2:19, “You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.” In the day when James penned these words, people believed that a “head knowledge” of God was all they needed to be made right with God. Interestingly enough, too many people today still believe this same lie. But God says that even the demons believe in Him, but we know demons are not made right with God because of their belief. By placing our faith in Christ, our lives are drastically transformed. God says it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” God changes us through Christ and makes us brand new. Therefore, as followers of Christ, our lives should look drastically different than those still lost in their sin. Though the Law of God cannot save us because our faith is now in Christ, we must live our lives for Him.

Challenge & Application

Why should our lives look different after surrendering to Christ as Lord? How is your life different from what your life was like before surrendering to Christ as Lord?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we ended the devotions last week, we saw how God demonstrated His righteousness through Christ. Therefore, God made Christ our “Justifier,” which means that Christ is the only one who could and still can make us and everyone else right before God the Father by thoroughly cleansing us of all our sins (Colossians 1:13–14, Colossians 2:13–14)...

Day 2

It is overwhelmingly humbling when we consider all Christ has done for us through His life, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection. Christ gave His all so we could be made right with God the Father. So, as God used Paul to write His Word, God had Paul write in Romans 3:28, “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from wor...

Day 4

It is not hard to imagine one set of people thinking of themselves as being better than another. We see this in our world every day. The same was true when God had Paul write to all of the saints in Rome (Romans 1:7). The Jews considered themselves to be much better than the Gentiles. The Jews saw themselves as God’s people and the Gentiles a...

Day 5

Yesterday, we began to examine how the Jews had missed God’s call because they believed God had only chosen them as His people and no one else. As Christians, if we are not careful, we can start thinking more highly of ourselves than we ought because we know we belong to God through Christ. God had Paul write this in Romans 12:3 as a reminder...

Day 6

We now know that our faith was given to us by God, who created us all. We also know that God has given that same faith to everyone who does not know Him yet. Those still separated from Christ have chosen to use the faith given to them by God to trust in someone or something else. As God had Paul write, we see today that God had Paul tell us, ...

Day 7

We end this week with Romans 3:31. God has taught us much about Himself and that His salvation is for everyone, not just the Jews. God has Paul finishing up Romans 3 by asking a question and then answering that same question in Romans 3:31, “Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law.” The...
