Scripture to Read: Romans 3:28
It is overwhelmingly humbling when we consider all Christ has done for us through His life, crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection. Christ gave His all so we could be made right with God the Father. So, as God used Paul to write His Word, God had Paul write in Romans 3:28, “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.” Why would God have Paul convey that a person is justified by faith and that the Law was not a part of justifying the person? Because the Jews lived their lives thinking that their good works were what would justify them before our Holy God. Every false religion today is also based upon a person’s good works, making them right with whatever god they worship. But too many Christians then fall into the lie that because “good works” do not justify us before God Almighty, "good works” are not that important. “Good works” are incredibly important after surrendering to Christ as Lord. God tells us in Ephesians 2:10 that He has created us for “good works.” Again, God tells us in Titus 2:14 that Christ laid down His life for us “to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.” God again tells us in Titus 3:8 that every follower of Christ must be careful to be involved in “good works.” The reason we are to walk in “good works” is because they are the evidence that Christ has transformed us as our Lord.
Challenge & Application
What has Christ done on our behalf, and why is placing our faith in Christ as Lord so important?
How are you walking in “good works” each day to show others that you belong to Christ and that He is your Lord?
