Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:20-22
We end with a beautiful invitation from our Lord Jesus Christ. The invitation from our Lord is not just for the church at Laodicea, but His invitation is to everyone who needs Him. The beauty of our Lord is that He knocks continually on the door of each person’s heart so that those who do not know Him will come to know Him, and those of us who do know Him will daily open our hearts in sweet fellowship with Him. The fact that our Lord desires to fellowship with us is incredibly humbling. Jesus says it this way in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” Notice that our Lord says He’s the one knocking because He desires to come in and dine with us and us with Him. To sit down and share a meal with someone opens up the door for intimate conversation. Our Lord desires us to have intimate conversation and fellowship with Him. Finally, in Revelation 3:21-22, our Lord reminds the church at Laodicea (and us) that it’s those who overcome who will receive the fullness of ruling and reigning with Him one day. Who are the ones who overcome and how do we overcome? God gives us the answer in 1 John 5:4, For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Let’s all be overcomers.
