Day 6

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:19

As we read Revelation 3:19, we see that Jesus also tells the church at Laodicea that He disciplines those He loves. God also makes this truth clear in Hebrews 12:6-8, “For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. The Lord’s discipline is a good thing for us as Believers. If we are not careful, we can see God’s discipline as something negative or even shameful, but our Lord Jesus Christ says this clearly in Revelation 3:19, “this whom I LOVE, I reprove and discipline,” and in Hebrews 12:6, “for those whom the Lord LOVES He disciplines.” If we are able to live in sin and we receive zero discipline from the Lord, then God says we are illegitimate (we don’t belong to Christ). We need to rejoice in our Lord when He convicts us of sin, for He is offering us the fullness of His mercy and grace. God is also giving us the opportunity to repent of our sin so that we are restored to right fellowship with our King. Christ, of course, encourages the church in Laodicea towards repentance and to live according to His Word. Repentance is what we need to stay in right fellowship with our Lord. May we never get comfortable with any sin in our lives.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His loving discipline and the fruit that comes from His discipline? 2. How have you been lovingly disciplined by our Lord and how have you repented from the sin He revealed to you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We are on the last of the seven churches that Jesus wrote to in Revelation 2 & 3. This week we see all that our Lord had to say to the church of Laodicea. Just so we are aware, the letter in Revelation 3:14-22 was written to the church in Laodicea (Laodicea was an important, wealthy city with a significant Jewish population). Our Lord Jesus C...

Day 2

Yesterday we saw how our Lord Jesus Christ introduced Himself. After Christ’s introduction, He lets the church at Laodicea know that He knows their works and He rebuked them for being apathetic towards Him. The problem with the people in Laodicea was that they dishonored God by honoring false “gods.” Jesus calls them “lukewarm.” This is the s...

Day 3

We saw yesterday the usefulness of hot and cold water and the uselessness of lukewarm water. Because the church in Laodicea was “lukewarm,” Jesus told them He would spit them out of His mouth. When we are “lukewarm” we become useless, just like lukewarm water is useless to most people. The church at Corinth had become “fleshly” and was rebuke...

Day 4

We continue our walk through Revelation 3:14-22. We know the church at Laodicea was “lukewarm” and had become useless to the Master’s service, all the while thinking they were fine. The city of Laodicea was abundantly rich from the world's point of view, so they thought they needed nothing. Being rich with this world's goods is not bad as lon...

Day 5

As we ended yesterday’s devotion, God taught us how the church in Laodicea was wretched, poor, blind, miserable, and naked. Jesus calls everyone who calls themselves a Christian to be fully SOLD OUT to Him. Jesus said it like this in Luke 9:23, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me...

Day 7

We end with a beautiful invitation from our Lord Jesus Christ. The invitation from our Lord is not just for the church at Laodicea, but His invitation is to everyone who needs Him. The beauty of our Lord is that He knocks continually on the door of each person’s heart so that those who do not know Him will come to know Him, and those of us wh...
