Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:18
As we ended yesterday’s devotion, God taught us how the church in Laodicea was wretched, poor, blind, miserable, and naked. Jesus calls everyone who calls themselves a Christian to be fully SOLD OUT to Him. Jesus said it like this in Luke 9:23, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.” The good news is that when we fully surrender to Christ, our wretchedness is turned to joy. Our poverty is turned to riches, for we realize that true riches are only found in Christ. Our blindness is healed so that our eyes are opened to the fullness of His Truth and who we are in Him. Our misery is changed so that our heart is completely healed. And finally, our nakedness is taken away and we are clothed in His righteousness. Jesus makes all of this clear as He shares with the church in Laodicea what they must do and what anyone else who is “lukewarm” must do. Jesus says in Revelation 3:18, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Jesus lays out three things that we must buy from Him. Only in Christ do people find what they thought the world could give them. We will look more closely at what we receive in Christ in tomorrow’s devotion.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about what Christ alone offers us that the world can never give us?
2. How are you walking with the incredible gifts that Christ has given you as His child?
