Day 3

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:15-16

We saw yesterday the usefulness of hot and cold water and the uselessness of lukewarm water. Because the church in Laodicea was “lukewarm,” Jesus told them He would spit them out of His mouth. When we are “lukewarm” we become useless, just like lukewarm water is useless to most people. The church at Corinth had become “fleshly” and was rebuked for their sin. In 1 Corinthians 3:1-3, God uses Paul to rebuke the church at Corinth for being “fleshly.” These were believers who had chosen not to grow in their fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ. This is what God says to the church at Corinth, through Paul, And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to infants in Christ. 2 I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, 3 for you are still fleshly. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking like mere men? When we are “fleshly or “lukewarm” we are no longer useful to our Master. Our Lord Jesus Christ uses us, as Believers, to spread His Word. Remember that the “sword” came out of Jesus’ mouth. Also, the “sword” is His Word (Ephesians 6:17). To be spit out of His mouth means that we are no longer usable vessels (2 Timothy 2:20-21) to spread His Truth to the people around us.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about being “fleshly” or “lukewarm?” 2. How are you living your life for our Lord so that you remain a vessel (useful to our Master) to spread His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We are on the last of the seven churches that Jesus wrote to in Revelation 2 & 3. This week we see all that our Lord had to say to the church of Laodicea. Just so we are aware, the letter in Revelation 3:14-22 was written to the church in Laodicea (Laodicea was an important, wealthy city with a significant Jewish population). Our Lord Jesus C...

Day 2

Yesterday we saw how our Lord Jesus Christ introduced Himself. After Christ’s introduction, He lets the church at Laodicea know that He knows their works and He rebuked them for being apathetic towards Him. The problem with the people in Laodicea was that they dishonored God by honoring false “gods.” Jesus calls them “lukewarm.” This is the s...

Day 4

We continue our walk through Revelation 3:14-22. We know the church at Laodicea was “lukewarm” and had become useless to the Master’s service, all the while thinking they were fine. The city of Laodicea was abundantly rich from the world's point of view, so they thought they needed nothing. Being rich with this world's goods is not bad as lon...

Day 5

As we ended yesterday’s devotion, God taught us how the church in Laodicea was wretched, poor, blind, miserable, and naked. Jesus calls everyone who calls themselves a Christian to be fully SOLD OUT to Him. Jesus said it like this in Luke 9:23, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me...

Day 6

As we read Revelation 3:19, we see that Jesus also tells the church at Laodicea that He disciplines those He loves. God also makes this truth clear in Hebrews 12:6-8, “For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son...

Day 7

We end with a beautiful invitation from our Lord Jesus Christ. The invitation from our Lord is not just for the church at Laodicea, but His invitation is to everyone who needs Him. The beauty of our Lord is that He knocks continually on the door of each person’s heart so that those who do not know Him will come to know Him, and those of us wh...
