Scripture to Read: John 8:25–30
After Jesus told the Jews a second time that they would die in their sins, here is how they responded in John 8:25, “Who are You?” That was all they could say, “Who are You?” So, Jesus lovingly rebuked them for even asking the question, for He told them, “What have I been saying to you from the beginning?” When Jesus’ ministry went public, He never held back from telling people who He was. The problem was that the people remained blinded by their sin-filled hearts. Then, Jesus told them (in John 8:26), “I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.” Jesus brought them right back to His Heavenly Father and that everything He had said so far was from the Father Himself. But the Jews remained in the dark, for John 8:27 reveals that they had no clue Jesus was talking about God the Father. So, Jesus told them about His crucifixion and that it would be there that many would realize He is Messiah. Jesus even reminded them in John 8:29, “And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.” Jesus told them that He and the Father are One and that everything He had done and would do would please God the Father. Finally, many in the crowd believed, and their lives were changed. We must share Jesus so that lives are changed.
Challenge & Application
• What did God show you today about the Jews that is still true for so many today?
• Knowing so many are still lost in the darkness of sin, how are you being a witness for Christ to those around you?
