Scripture to Read: Hebrews 11:17-19
As we begin today, in Hebrews 11:17-19,
we read how God tested Abraham. God asked Abraham,
back in Genesis 22:1-10, to offer up Isaac, his son,
as a sacrifice. Now, God had already promised Abraham
that his descendants would be so many that they would
number far beyond the stars in the sky or the sands on
the seashore. God had also promised Abraham that his
descendants would continue through the seed of Issac.
So, when God asked Abraham to offer up his son, Isaac,
as a sacrifice, in our minds, it would seem absurd. Abraham’s
faith though, was being put to the test with what
God requested from him. What we have to know to understand
how Abraham’s faith was being tested fully, was
that at the time of God’s request from Abraham, no one
had ever been raised from the dead yet, by God. Now, for
us, we know God can raise people from the dead because
we have read the evidence throughout Scripture. And of
course, our Lord Jesus Christ defeated death forever for
everyone who surrenders to Him as Lord. But having all
these facts in Scripture was not what Abraham had. Abraham
truly trusted God with all his heart and acted upon
his faith when he took Isaac to Moriah to sacrifice him.
We must NOT miss what God’s Word says of Abraham in
Hebrews 11:19 “He considered that God is able to raise
people even from the dead….” Abraham believed God
could raise Isaac from the dead.
Challenge & Application
1. How has God tested your faith in Him?
2. Who can you share the truth of God’s Word with this
week? When will you share your faith with them?
