Day 3

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 11:7-16

God begins to lay before us, and of course, He put this before the Jewish Christians that this letter was first written to, the saints of old who walked by faith in the Old Testament. God reminds us of Noah; because of Noah’s reverence for God and his faith in God, Noah prepared the ark for the salvation of himself and his family. Noah put his faith into action by obeying God and building the ark. Because of Noah’s faith being put into action Noah became an heir of God’s righteousness. Then God reminds us of Abraham (Genesis 22:1-10), who God called to move to a place Abraham had never been before. God had told Abraham that He would give him this land and that his descendants would be heirs to this land as well. We must not miss in Hebrews 11:10, the reason why Abraham obeyed God. We read that Abraham was looking forward to his heavenly home, “whose architect and builder is God.” We also learned about Sarah trusting God for a child even though she was way beyond the years of bearing children, and that Abraham was considered, in Hebrews 11:12, “as good as dead” but that God gave him descendants too numerous to count. What is incredibly humbling is that all of these saints died, never experiencing the promise of Christ. These saints of old desired a heavenly city, and because of their faith in God’s promise, “God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.” (Hebrews 11:16)

Challenge & Application

1. We have God’s promises through His Word and we also know the fullness of all Christ has done for us! So, how are you living out your faith in comparison to the saints of old who only had the promise of Christ’s coming? 2. Who can you share your faith with this week and when will you share your faith with them?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

There is no doubt that the theme of Hebrews 11 is “faith.” As we focus on “faith” over these next seven devotions, may our Lord open our eyes to our own faith in Him and His Word. Hebrews 11:1 clearly defines “faith” for us. Faith is that confirmation within our hearts of the promises of God that we look forward to enjoying for all eternity. ...

Day 2

Over the next few days, we’re going to see many examples of faith in Hebrews 11. My prayer is that God uses these examples to encourage us and motivate us to put our faith into action every day. God shows us in Hebrews 11:3 that everything in creation all came into being by His spoken Word. This is a great reminder to all of us of the awesome...

Day 4

As we begin today, in Hebrews 11:17-19, we read how God tested Abraham. God asked Abraham, back in Genesis 22:1-10, to offer up Isaac, his son, as a sacrifice. Now, God had already promised Abraham that his descendants would be so many that they would number far beyond the stars in the sky or the sands on the seashore. God had also promised A...

Day 5

It’s truly amazing to consider how God used ordinary people for bigger than life ministries to carry out His perfect will. Too often, we see ourselves as useless and insignificant for the work in God’s Kingdom. But, God has chosen each one of us for a particular area of ministry in which He desires us to fulfill His work for His glory and pra...

Day 6

Acts of faith continue to be shared with us in Hebrews 11. Things that we did not know from the Old Testament, God is clarifying for us in Hebrews 11. We read how Moses’ parents put their faith in God into action by hiding Moses and not fearing the king’s command to kill all of the Jewish male children once they were born (Exodus 1:15 to Exod...

Day 7

Today we see that our faith in God can result in huge miracles taking place as shared in Hebrews 11:33-35 “…conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to ...
