Day 1

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 11:1-2

There is no doubt that the theme of Hebrews 11 is “faith.” As we focus on “faith” over these next seven devotions, may our Lord open our eyes to our own faith in Him and His Word. Hebrews 11:1 clearly defines “faith” for us. Faith is that confirmation within our hearts of the promises of God that we look forward to enjoying for all eternity. Faith also is that deep conviction within our hearts that all of God’s promises are true; therefore, we rest in Him and the Truth of His Word. Faith is not empty head knowledge. Head knowledge is meaningless because it only causes us to be arrogant and prideful of what we know. That is why believing God’s promises with our minds is not enough. God even makes this clear in James 2:19 when He tells us that even the demons believe His Truth, and they are fearful. Transforming faith is a heart knowledge that changes our way of thinking and our way of living. When we place our complete faith in God and His Word, our faith becomes evident in our lives, for we live for Him and no longer for ourselves. That is why God says in Hebrews 11:2 that by transforming faith, all of the saints of the Old Testament “gained approval” from God. In other words, God poured out His abundant favor on the saints of the Old Testament because they trusted Him. Don’t misunderstand God’s favor, for this was not something earned but something freely given by God because they trusted Him.

Challenge & Application

1. What did you learn about “faith” today that you did not know before? 2. Who will you share your faith with this week, knowing that need to put their faith into action by trusting in Christ alone?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Over the next few days, we’re going to see many examples of faith in Hebrews 11. My prayer is that God uses these examples to encourage us and motivate us to put our faith into action every day. God shows us in Hebrews 11:3 that everything in creation all came into being by His spoken Word. This is a great reminder to all of us of the awesome...

Day 3

God begins to lay before us, and of course, He put this before the Jewish Christians that this letter was first written to, the saints of old who walked by faith in the Old Testament. God reminds us of Noah; because of Noah’s reverence for God and his faith in God, Noah prepared the ark for the salvation of himself and his family. Noah put hi...

Day 4

As we begin today, in Hebrews 11:17-19, we read how God tested Abraham. God asked Abraham, back in Genesis 22:1-10, to offer up Isaac, his son, as a sacrifice. Now, God had already promised Abraham that his descendants would be so many that they would number far beyond the stars in the sky or the sands on the seashore. God had also promised A...

Day 5

It’s truly amazing to consider how God used ordinary people for bigger than life ministries to carry out His perfect will. Too often, we see ourselves as useless and insignificant for the work in God’s Kingdom. But, God has chosen each one of us for a particular area of ministry in which He desires us to fulfill His work for His glory and pra...

Day 6

Acts of faith continue to be shared with us in Hebrews 11. Things that we did not know from the Old Testament, God is clarifying for us in Hebrews 11. We read how Moses’ parents put their faith in God into action by hiding Moses and not fearing the king’s command to kill all of the Jewish male children once they were born (Exodus 1:15 to Exod...

Day 7

Today we see that our faith in God can result in huge miracles taking place as shared in Hebrews 11:33-35 “…conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to ...
