Scripture to Read: Genesis 2:21-25
Marriage is the beautiful picture of God uniting a man and a woman together as one. This union by God is the wonderful picture of Christ and His church. We find this unpacked in Ephesians 5:21-33. In Genesis 2, we see that God clarifies what man must do. In Genesis 2:24, God says, Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. The husband and the wife become one. The man represents the “head” just like Christ is the head of the church. The wife represents the “church” (the body of Christ) just as we today are Christ’s body. The head and the body are one. Our culture attempts to define marriage in its own way, but the culture is wrong. Anything outside of what God laid out for marriage is a sin. This sin includes two men coming together or two women coming together. This sin also consists of a man and a woman coming together outside the bonds of marriage. Remember, our authority only goes so far. We have NO RIGHT to redefine what God lays out in His Word. Just because we “FEEL” strongly about something does NOT make it right or true. As a result of this perfect union created by God between one man and one woman, we read in Genesis 2:25 that the man and woman were naked and not ashamed. When we do marriage God’s way, there is ZERO shame, guilt, or rationalization of our choices because we know we have done it God’s way.
