Scripture to Read: Genesis 2:17
We did not get a chance to unpack Genesis 2:17 yesterday, so that is where we will be today. As we saw yesterday, we still have a God-given responsibility to work in this life and to take care of all God has entrusted to us. We don’t need to go overboard when it comes to the world in which we live. In other words, there are far too many who have gone too far when it comes to God’s creation, and they worship the creation over the Creator. There is no doubt we are to take care of God’s creation because God has entrusted us to take care of what He has created. But we should never think of God’s creation as something to be worshipped. God alone is to be worshipped. In Genesis 2:17, we see God lay out another specific command for man. God tells man, “of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Here, the command God gives is not completely unpacked for us, but this command will become crystal clear next week as we unpack Genesis 3. The point for us today is this: we DON’T NEED to understand God’s commands completely to obey them. What we DO NEED to do is OBEY God’s commands whether we know the complete reason for the command or not. God ALWAYS looks out for us. So, when He gives a command, we can know that the command is for our protection and for His glory.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about His commands?
2. How are you making sure to walk in God’s commands every day?
