Scripture to Read: Genesis 2:8-14
In Genesis 2:8-14, God gives us the beautiful layout of His perfect design. We see God’s character and creativity displayed here so beautifully. God planted a garden in Eden. Then God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden. Then God “made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.” God’s abundant provision for man is miraculously shown to us here. The fact that every tree was pleasant to the sight and good for food shows us how God gave abundantly and gave many different varieties of food. We also see that God first mentions the “tree of life” and the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil” here in Genesis 2. The fact that God had Moses write about these two trees lets us see that God’s design always has a purpose and that God never does anything haphazardly. God placed a river strategically in the garden of Eden so that the garden could receive the water it needed to flourish. This river then branched off into four rivers. It’s interesting to note here that two of the rivers that flowed still exist today (the Tigris and the Euphrates). The geographic location of these rivers probably changed during the worldwide flood, but the evidence for a literal Genesis Creation still exists today. We continue to see God’s beautiful handiwork in the precious minerals He scattered throughout the land, such as gold, onyx, and bdellium. Again, all of this shared so we can see how God provided and still provides today, graciously and abundantly.
