Scripture to Read: Genesis 2:18-25
Today and tomorrow, we’ll finish up with unpacking Genesis 2:18-25. God speaks and clarifies that it was not a good thing for the man to be alone. God has created and specifically designed us for relationship! God wants us to have an incredible living relationship with Him, and He wants us to have relationship with each other. As we read Genesis 2:18-25, we see that God formed all of the animals according to their “kind,” just as we also saw in Genesis 1. Then God brought all of the animals to the man to name them according to their kind. Then, God had Moses make note of the fact that for Adam, “there was not found a helper fit for him.” So, our Lord God put Adam into a deep sleep and took one of his ribs to create the first woman. When Adam woke up, he saw the woman and said this in Genesis 2:23,“ This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Adam recognized the incredibly precious gift God provided for him. Adam knew the woman was just like him because God did not create her from the dirt, but God created her from Adam’s side. She was “taken out of Man.” The woman was part of Adam, and she was created to walk with him, serve with him, and live with him for life. What another beautiful picture of God’s provision. God met man’s need for a relationship with someone like him.
