Scripture to Read: Genesis 2:5-7
Genesis 2:5-7 brings us to a unique moment in Scripture. Be sure and read it as you walk through this devotion today. We need to make sure we do not miss a few things in Genesis 2:5-7 that God clearly lays out for us. At this point in creation, God had not yet brought rain to the earth. Instead, within the first three days of creation, God used “a mist going up from the land” to water the earth. Eventually, the rain came because the vegetation had to grow. So, all we know from God’s Word is that God used the mist to water the earth for the first three days of creation. Then we read, “God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.” This verse captures the beautiful picture of the relationship between God and man, which was and still is above all other creatures. We read how our Lord formed man from dust and gave him life. Nothing else in all creation was made like this! Remember, man was created in the image of God and nothing else was created in God’s image. To know we’ve been created in God’s image means we must believe the creation account and absolutely deny the idea that we came through a process of evolution. God designed us purposefully, and we are here to glorify and honor Him in all we do. Life is a gift from Him and apart from Him life does not exist.
