Scripture to Read: Exodus 27:1–8
We read about the Altar of Burnt Offering in Exodus 27:1–8. The Hebrew word for altar is best defined a “killing place.” There must be death (the shedding of blood) for the atonement of sin. Without the blood, there is no redemption. God’s Word reminds us of this Truth in Hebrews 9:22, “And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” God gave Moses the details for the altar so the people could bring their sacrifices to the priests and be made right before God. As Christians, our altar is the cross of Christ, where He sacrificed Himself for us so that we could be made right with God the Father for eternity. But we must willingly lay down our lives daily, crucifying our flesh, so that we live in obedience to our Lord and honor Him for all He’s done for us. God reminds us in Galatians 2:20, which should be the testimony of us all, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Then, God reminds us in Galatians 6:14, “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” This world is not our home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_lhnprEyzc
