Scripture to Read: Exodus 25:31–40
As God continued to give Moses specific instructions about every article to be placed within His tabernacle in Exodus 25:31–40, God gave Moses the instructions on how to build the lampstand. The golden lampstand gave light within the tabernacle, for God never wanted the tabernacle to be dark but to have light continually (Leviticus 24:1–4). The golden lampstand is a beautiful picture of our coming Messiah, our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus has always been, and will always be, “the light of the world” (John 1:4, John 8:12, John 9:5, John 12:35). As a reminder, the Tabernacle represented God’s throne room in heaven. God specifically told Moses that the lampstand was to have seven lights. In Revelation 3:1, Revelation 4:5, and Revelation 5:6, God’s Word describes the seven Spirits of God. As we examine Isaiah 11:2, a prophecy of Christ, we read, “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.” So, the seven lamps on the golden lampstand represent the presence of “God the Holy Spirit” in God’s throne room in heaven. God’s Holy Spirit was present in the Tabernacle, but thanks be to our Lord Jesus Christ that now His Spirit lives in us, and we are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
