Day 7

Scripture to Read: Exodus 18:13–27

As we finish this week, God gives us a great plan for discipleship. We know we are commanded by our Lord (in Matthew 28:18–20) to make disciples of all nations. We also know that making a disciple is not just leading someone to Christ, but it is teaching them how to walk with Christ, know His Word, and help them mature as a follower of Christ. Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, was teaching Moses this same principle. Moses had been spending every day dealing with the disputes of the entire nation of Israel, “judging between a man and his neighbor and making known the statutes of God and His laws” (Exodus 18:16). So, Jethro shared with Moses how Moses must “select out of all the people able men who fear God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens” (Exodus 18:21). This is a great godly truth, for God also led Paul to write to Timothy and tell him in 2 Timothy 2:2, “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” We must continually invest in other believers everything that God has taught us. This way, each believer can fulfill the ministry God has called them to fulfill, and we see ministry multiplied abundantly. God wants all of us to invest well so that His ministries continue to thrive until He returns.

Challenge & Application

· Where are you currently serving our Lord, and how do you see God multiplying His fruit in and through you? · Who are you currently investing in, and if you have yet to find someone, how are you preparing to help invest in others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God had delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. Undoubtedly, the Israelites had seen God move mightily and miraculously as He parted the Red Sea and then drowned the entire Egyptian Army in the Red Sea. Today, we read in Exodus 15:22–27 that God had Moses lead the people of Israel for three days into the wilderness. We also read that the...

Day 2

Yesterday, we saw how God miraculously provided Moses with a tree that Moses threw into the water, and the water became sweet to drink. But then God had Moses tell the Israelites this in Exodus 15:26, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep...

Day 3

We continue our walk through Exodus 16. God provided so abundantly for the nation of Israel. God had Moses tell the Israelites in Exodus 16:8, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumb...

Day 4

As we ended Exodus 16:31–35, we learned that the nation of Israel named the bread “manna,” which means “What is it?” based on the question they asked in Exodus 16:15. God provided for the Israelites for forty years (Exodus 16:35). As Awesome as this miracle is, God provided a greater miracle through Himself in the Person of Christ our Lord. E...

Day 5

It’s interesting, as we study Exodus 17:8–14, that Amalek came against Israel. Remember the praise song of the Israelites in Exodus 15, how the Israelites sang about the surrounding nations in Exodus 15:13–16, “The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 “Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; Th...

Day 6

As we read Exodus 18:1–12, we see that Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, traveled to see Moses and to bring Moses’ wife and sons back to Moses. God’s Word does not tell us when Moses sent his wife and sons back to his father-in-law but most likely, Moses would have sent them before the plagues began or sometime during the pl...
