Scripture to Read: Exodus 16:8–36
We continue our walk through Exodus 16. God provided so abundantly for the nation of Israel. God had Moses tell the Israelites in Exodus 16:8, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against the Lord.” God did this so that all of Israel would know that He was the One Who brought them out of Egypt and that He was the Lord their God. God does not perform miracles to show off; He always has His purpose to fulfill. God’s purpose in providing Israel the food they cried out for was so they would fully understand that He alone was GOD and that He alone was their Deliverer! God gave the Israelites clear direction regarding how much food to gather daily. It was only enough to feed their family for the day and ensure they did not keep any for the next day. Did Israel listen? NO! God tells us in Exodus 16:20, “But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them.” There are always consequences when we do not listen to our Lord and obey His Word. The only day they were to gather enough for two days was on the sixth day to observe a sabbath on the seventh day. Obeying our Lord is the key to blessings.
