Day 4

Scripture to Read: Exodus 17:1–7

As we ended Exodus 16:31–35, we learned that the nation of Israel named the bread “manna,” which means “What is it?” based on the question they asked in Exodus 16:15. God provided for the Israelites for forty years (Exodus 16:35). As Awesome as this miracle is, God provided a greater miracle through Himself in the Person of Christ our Lord. Even when Jesus fed the five thousand in John 6, they came looking for Him because He fed them. Jesus told them in John 6:32–33, 35, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” 35 “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” Then the Israelites followed the command of our Lord (Exodus 17:1) and journeyed from Sin to Rephidim, but there was no water in Rephidim. Since God had provided all along the way so far, we would think the Israelites would know He’d provide again. Did they trust God? NO! They quarreled and grumbled against Moses. But God told Moses in Exodus 17:6, “…I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it.….” God provided again despite the Israelites’ lack of faith in Him!

Challenge & Application

· Christ is “the bread of life” who feeds us spiritually, meeting our every spiritual need. So how does He fill you daily? · How have you seen God miraculously work even when you lacked faith in Him?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God had delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. Undoubtedly, the Israelites had seen God move mightily and miraculously as He parted the Red Sea and then drowned the entire Egyptian Army in the Red Sea. Today, we read in Exodus 15:22–27 that God had Moses lead the people of Israel for three days into the wilderness. We also read that the...

Day 2

Yesterday, we saw how God miraculously provided Moses with a tree that Moses threw into the water, and the water became sweet to drink. But then God had Moses tell the Israelites this in Exodus 15:26, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep...

Day 3

We continue our walk through Exodus 16. God provided so abundantly for the nation of Israel. God had Moses tell the Israelites in Exodus 16:8, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumb...

Day 5

It’s interesting, as we study Exodus 17:8–14, that Amalek came against Israel. Remember the praise song of the Israelites in Exodus 15, how the Israelites sang about the surrounding nations in Exodus 15:13–16, “The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 “Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; Th...

Day 6

As we read Exodus 18:1–12, we see that Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, traveled to see Moses and to bring Moses’ wife and sons back to Moses. God’s Word does not tell us when Moses sent his wife and sons back to his father-in-law but most likely, Moses would have sent them before the plagues began or sometime during the pl...

Day 7

As we finish this week, God gives us a great plan for discipleship. We know we are commanded by our Lord (in Matthew 28:18–20) to make disciples of all nations. We also know that making a disciple is not just leading someone to Christ, but it is teaching them how to walk with Christ, know His Word, and help them mature as a follower of Christ...
