Day 2

Scripture to Read: Exodus 16:1–7

Yesterday, we saw how God miraculously provided Moses with a tree that Moses threw into the water, and the water became sweet to drink. But then God had Moses tell the Israelites this in Exodus 15:26, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.” God gave the Israelites an incredible promise and reminded them that He alone is “Jehovah-Rapha,” “the Lord who heals.” Then God brought them to “Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters” (Exodus 15:27). God’s provision was abundant and overflowing. Then, God led them to the wilderness of Sin just 45 days after being delivered from Egypt. What did the Israelites do? They started grumbling against Moses and Aaron because they were hungry. Again, did they seek God’s face? Did they ask Moses and Aaron to seek God’s face? No, they started thinking about how they had bread and meat in Egypt. Did they even mention their slavery in Egypt? NO! All they could think about was that they had food in Egypt! What does God do? He pours out His abundant grace and promises to provide them with bread from heaven. Grumbling is sin; that is why God reminds us not to grumble in Philippians 2:14–15.

Challenge & Application

· In what ways does God provide for you each day, and how do you show your gratefulness to our Lord for His abundant provision? · How can you help other believers who struggle with grumbling begin to see God’s miraculous provision for them each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God had delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. Undoubtedly, the Israelites had seen God move mightily and miraculously as He parted the Red Sea and then drowned the entire Egyptian Army in the Red Sea. Today, we read in Exodus 15:22–27 that God had Moses lead the people of Israel for three days into the wilderness. We also read that the...

Day 3

We continue our walk through Exodus 16. God provided so abundantly for the nation of Israel. God had Moses tell the Israelites in Exodus 16:8, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumb...

Day 4

As we ended Exodus 16:31–35, we learned that the nation of Israel named the bread “manna,” which means “What is it?” based on the question they asked in Exodus 16:15. God provided for the Israelites for forty years (Exodus 16:35). As Awesome as this miracle is, God provided a greater miracle through Himself in the Person of Christ our Lord. E...

Day 5

It’s interesting, as we study Exodus 17:8–14, that Amalek came against Israel. Remember the praise song of the Israelites in Exodus 15, how the Israelites sang about the surrounding nations in Exodus 15:13–16, “The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 “Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; Th...

Day 6

As we read Exodus 18:1–12, we see that Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, traveled to see Moses and to bring Moses’ wife and sons back to Moses. God’s Word does not tell us when Moses sent his wife and sons back to his father-in-law but most likely, Moses would have sent them before the plagues began or sometime during the pl...

Day 7

As we finish this week, God gives us a great plan for discipleship. We know we are commanded by our Lord (in Matthew 28:18–20) to make disciples of all nations. We also know that making a disciple is not just leading someone to Christ, but it is teaching them how to walk with Christ, know His Word, and help them mature as a follower of Christ...
