Day 1

Scripture to Read: Exodus 15:22–27

God had delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. Undoubtedly, the Israelites had seen God move mightily and miraculously as He parted the Red Sea and then drowned the entire Egyptian Army in the Red Sea. Today, we read in Exodus 15:22–27 that God had Moses lead the people of Israel for three days into the wilderness. We also read that the water was bitter when they arrived at Marah, so that no one could drink it. Did the Israelites come to Moses and ask him to pray to God and to ask God to take care of their need? Did the Israelites get on their face before God, thank Him again for delivering them, and then ask Him for drinkable water? The obvious answer to both of these questions is, “No!” Instead, the Israelites “grumbled at Moses, saying, ‘What shall we drink?’” (Exodus 15:24). The Israelites had just crossed the Red Sea a little over three days earlier and were now grumbling. We will not experience something like the Red Sea parting, but God miraculously provides for us daily. He gives us the ability to work so we have food to eat, shelter to live in, clothes to wear, vehicles to transport us, and many other things. He gives us the privilege to passionately pursue Him and know Him because His Spirit lives in us. But if we’re not cautious, we can begin to grumble to God about what we don’t have and miss all we do have. Also, don’t miss how God gives His grace and provision in Exodus 15:25–27.

Challenge & Application

· What caused the Israelites to grumble, and how have you fallen prey to grumbling because of your circumstances? · How have you learned to guard against grumbling and instead thank the Lord for all He has done and is doing?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Yesterday, we saw how God miraculously provided Moses with a tree that Moses threw into the water, and the water became sweet to drink. But then God had Moses tell the Israelites this in Exodus 15:26, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep...

Day 3

We continue our walk through Exodus 16. God provided so abundantly for the nation of Israel. God had Moses tell the Israelites in Exodus 16:8, “This will happen when the Lord gives you meat to eat in the evening, and bread to the full in the morning; for the Lord hears your grumblings which you grumble against Him. And what are we? Your grumb...

Day 4

As we ended Exodus 16:31–35, we learned that the nation of Israel named the bread “manna,” which means “What is it?” based on the question they asked in Exodus 16:15. God provided for the Israelites for forty years (Exodus 16:35). As Awesome as this miracle is, God provided a greater miracle through Himself in the Person of Christ our Lord. E...

Day 5

It’s interesting, as we study Exodus 17:8–14, that Amalek came against Israel. Remember the praise song of the Israelites in Exodus 15, how the Israelites sang about the surrounding nations in Exodus 15:13–16, “The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 “Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; Th...

Day 6

As we read Exodus 18:1–12, we see that Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, traveled to see Moses and to bring Moses’ wife and sons back to Moses. God’s Word does not tell us when Moses sent his wife and sons back to his father-in-law but most likely, Moses would have sent them before the plagues began or sometime during the pl...

Day 7

As we finish this week, God gives us a great plan for discipleship. We know we are commanded by our Lord (in Matthew 28:18–20) to make disciples of all nations. We also know that making a disciple is not just leading someone to Christ, but it is teaching them how to walk with Christ, know His Word, and help them mature as a follower of Christ...
