Day 6

Scripture to Read: Exodus 12:42–51

As we continue in Exodus 12, we examine the ordinance of the Passover. God spoke to Moses, then Moses spoke to the nation of Israel to teach them why keeping the Passover was so important. God wanted Israel to remember that Passover is when He delivered them from Egypt. Similarly, we observe the Lord's Supper to remember that our Lord Jesus Christ surrendered His body and blood to deliver all mankind from the power and penalty of sin. God also gave specifics on who was to observe the Passover. We read in Exodus 12:43–48, “The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘This is the ordinance of the Passover: no foreigner is to eat of it; 44 but every man’s slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it. 45 A sojourner or a hired servant shall not eat of it. 46 It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it. 47 All the congregation of Israel are to celebrate this. 48 But if a stranger sojourns with you, and celebrates the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it.’” For the Lord’s Supper, we also tell people that only those who have surrendered to Christ as Lord and have been baptized should take the Lord's Supper.

The Egyptians wanted all of the Israelites gone quickly, fearing that God would kill every Egyptian. Remember too how God had told Moses, back in Exodus 3:21–22, that the n...

Day 7

In Exodus 13, God had Moses tell the Israelites about the consecration of the firstborn. To be consecrated means to be set apart or dedicated to God. God told Moses, in Exodus 13:2, “Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.” God has consecrated every C...
