Day 4

Scripture to Read: Exodus 12:23–32

God gave Moses, Aaron, and the nation of Israel many proofs that He is God and that He loved them. In Exodus 12:23–32, God told the nation of Israel, through Moses and Aaron, what He would do in Egypt. God told them how He would pass through Egypt and kill the Egyptians. God reminded the Israelites that He would pass over their house when He saw the blood on the top and two sides of their doors. God would not allow the destroyer to come into their homes to kill their firstborn. God also told them to remember this event for generations to come. When they entered the promised land, the land He had told Abraham about, they should remember the Passover there too. And they should teach their children by telling them, “It is a Passover sacrifice to the Lord who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.” (Exodus 12:27). So, Israel obeyed God. At midnight, God moved through Egypt, killing all the firstborn. There was not one home where there was not someone dead. Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron that night and told them, “…go, worship the Lord, and take both your flocks and your herds…, and bless me also.” (Exodus 12:30–32) Pharaoh had been broken for the moment, but even in his darkness, Pharaoh asked Moses and Aaron to ask God to bless him. People today want God’s blessing, but they want it their way. Blessings only come through obedience (Proverbs 8:32, James 1:25).

Challenge & Application

Day 1

Last week, we saw God’s incredible handiwork. Though the spiritual forces of wickedness copied the first three plagues from God, once God sent the fourth plague, the spiritual forces of darkness were powerless (Exodus 8:18). This week, we will see the final plague God brings on Egypt and walk through how God redeems Israel from Egypt. As God ...

God told them what they must do to celebrate the feast. To prepare, on the first day they must remove leaven from their hou...

Day 5

We have arrived at the night of deliverance in Exodus 12:33–41. God had moved on behalf of the nation of Israel, and they were finally set free after 430 years of bondage. The Egyptians wanted all of the Israelites gone quickly, fearing that God would kill every Egyptian. Remember too how God had told Moses, back in Exodus 3:21–22, that the n...

Day 6

As we continue in Exodus 12, we examine the ordinance of the Passover. God spoke to Moses, then Moses spoke to the nation of Israel to teach them why keeping the Passover was so important. God wanted Israel to remember that Passover is when He delivered them from Egypt. Similarly, we observe the Lord's Supper to remember that our Lord Jesus C...

Day 7

In Exodus 13, God had Moses tell the Israelites about the consecration of the firstborn. To be consecrated means to be set apart or dedicated to God. God told Moses, in Exodus 13:2, “Sanctify to Me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the sons of Israel, both of man and beast; it belongs to Me.” God has consecrated every C...
