Scripture to Read: Exodus 12:14–22
As God gave the specifics to Moses and Aaron, which they would share with the Israelites, God told them that the day of Passover would be a memorial for all of Israel and a feast to the Lord throughout their generations. God told them what they must do to celebrate the feast. To prepare, on the first day they must remove leaven from their houses (leaven was a sign of sin as seen in Mark 8:15, 1 Corinthians 5:6–8, and Galatians 5:9). Also, every Israelite must observe a holy assembly on the first day of the feast and again on the seventh day. In other words, no work could be done on those two days except for the food preparation. They called it “The Feast of Unleavened Bread,” as it was the day God brought them out of Egypt. So, they would eat unleavened bread from the fourteenth day of the month at evening until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. So, Moses got all the elders of Israel together and told them, in Exodus 12:21–22, “Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb. 22 You shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning.” God tells us we must crucify our flesh and walk in His Spirit to glorify Him.
Challenge & Application
· God had them remove yeast from their homes (a symbol of sin). What has God told you to remove from your life?
· How do you daily celebrate God delivering you from the bondage of sin through our Lord Jesus Christ?
