Day 3

Scripture to Read: Daniel 2:12–15

Nebuchadnezzar was done with his so-called wise men, for we read in Daniel 2:12–13 that Nebuchadnezzar “became indignant and very furious and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.” Daniel and his friends’ lives were in jeopardy, but God was at work. God had prepared Daniel in Daniel 1 for the events God knew Daniel would face in Daniel 2. God uses our tests and trials to grow our faith in Him (James 1:2–4). What we face may seem overwhelming, but God tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that what seems huge is not as big as we think. We just need to cling to Him and follow Him, and He’ll lead us in His way so we can endure it. God used this trial in Daniel and his friends’ lives. We read in Daniel 2:14–15, "Then Daniel replied with discretion and discernment to Arioch, the captain of the king’s bodyguard, who had gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon; 15 he said to Arioch, the king’s commander, “For what reason is the decree from the king so urgent?” Then Arioch informed Daniel about the matter." Daniel reacted “with discretion and discernment.” When we face tests and trials, we must act the same way. God often uses trials to show us our weaknesses. We might be quick to doubt God or hit the panic button, but Daniel was calm. This 17-year-old replied, “with discretion and discernment.” God reminds us in James 1:19, …everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger. Be ready to obey God.

Challenge & Application

• When we know God’s promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13, why do we still get overwhelmed by tests and temptations? • We know at age 17, Daniel responded “with discretion and discernment.” How can you learn to do the same?

Day 1

Daniel is about how to live for God in a pagan environment. Daniel and his three friends serve as role models. Daniel 2:1, “Now in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was troubled and his sleep left him.” This was about two years after the events of Daniel 1. Daniel took a stand for God in...

Day 2

In Daniel 2:4, we read the response of the wise men. Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic: “O king, live forever! Tell the dream to your servants, and we will declare the interpretation.” They wanted Nebuchadnezzar to at least tell them the dream, then they would interpret it for him. But Nebuchadnezzar says in Daniel 2:5–6, “The c...

Day 4

God used Arioch, the king’s commander, to explain to Daniel what was happening. Daniel stood firm on God’s Truth in Daniel 1. If Daniel had compromised in Daniel 1, it’s most possible that Daniel 2 would have never happened. Our life choices can result in God’s favor as we walk in obedience to Him (James 1:25), but the opposite is also true. ...

Day 5

After Daniel prayed, praising and thanking God for revealing the dream to him, we read in Daniel 2:24 how Daniel quickly shared with Arioch what God had shown him. But don’t miss what God shows us in Daniel 2:25 and Daniel 2:28. In verse 25, Arioch credited Daniel for interpreting the dream, but in verse 28, Daniel gives God all the credit, g...

Day 6

In Daniel 2:31–35, God had Daniel describe the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Notice that the value of the metals deteriorates as we move from the top of the statue to the bottom of the statue. Also, notice that the weight of the metal declines as you move from top to bottom. Most theologians believe that God was revealing the decline of t...

Day 7

God miraculously used Daniel, because even as a 17-year-old, Daniel chose to walk in obedience to His true King. We read in Daniel 2:46–49, Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face and did homage to Daniel, and gave orders to present to him an offering and fragrant incense. 47 The king answered Daniel and said, “Surely your God is a God of g...
