Scripture to Read: 1 Timothy 2:1
This week, our focus is going to be on 1 Timothy 2:1-8. We are focusing on prayer as a church but also as individuals. God clearly tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1 that we are to pray for all people. As we pray, God tells us that we need to intercede on behalf of all people and that we are to give thanks for all people. One thing we ought to pray each day, for all lost souls on the face of the earth, is John 16:8-11. As we pray, we can know, according to John 16:8-11, that when the Holy Spirit came in Acts 1, He not only came to indwell all believers, but He also came to convict the world of its sin, of righteousness, and the coming judgment. The Holy Spirit is convicting the lost of their sin because they currently refuse to believe in Christ. The Holy Spirit is also convicting the lost world of their need for Christ’s righteousness because righteousness is only available through our Lord Jesus Christ. Finally, the Holy Spirit is convicting this lost world concerning the coming judgment because the ruler of this world has already been judged. We know God is working, but He invites us, through prayer, to join Him in His work. As we pray for all people, we should also specifically pray Colossians 1:9-14, Philippians 1:9-11, Ephesians 1:16-23 for all the saints (all Christians worldwide). This is a great place to start for us all.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you about who you should be praying for each day and what you should be praying?
2. How are you going to apply what you learned today in your prayer life?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
