Day 3

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 10:25–26

Remember that in last week’s devotions, God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:20–21, “No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.” But then, God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:25–26, “Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience’ sake; 26 for the earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains.” At first, this might seem like a contradiction, but it’s not. God used Paul to help the Christians in Corinth understand that the meat did not contain demons, so the meat itself could be eaten without concern. But as God had Paul write His warning in 1 Corinthians 10:15–22, God told the Christians in Corinth that there was an atmosphere of fellowship with demons within the pagan temples in Corinth, and He did not want any of His children involved with that at all. However, the meat itself was simply food, nothing more, and the meat was something they could purchase in the market and eat; again, not to eat the meat at the cost of causing a younger Christian to stumble. Every Christian has to make daily decisions that not only affect themselves but also impact all those people in their sphere of influence. We must continually be salt and light to all through Christ in us.

Challenge & Application

What was the difference between what God said in verses 15–21 and what He said in verses 25–26? As Christians, why must we be careful in our daily choices in all we do?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God used Paul as His writer to provide His Truth to the Christians in Corinth and all other Christians ever since. As God led Paul to write, God was lovingly rebuking the Christians in Corinth for their fleshly mindset. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:23, “All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not al...

Day 2

When we have a Christlike mindset, we think and act differently than when we have a fleshly mindset. God reminds us of this fact in Romans 8:5–8, “For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, b...

Day 4

God knows that He has called us to be His witnesses to everyone He brings across our path and to everyone He sends us to reach. Our Lord Jesus told us in Acts 1:8, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of ...

Day 5

God has clearly shown us that, as Christians, we must engage with lost people to be able to share the love of Christ with them. God used Paul to teach the Christians in Corinth how to live among the lost in their city and how to engage with those who worshipped idols. God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:28–29, “But if anyone says to you, “...

Day 6

God has Paul ask a great question and then give an incredible answer. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:30–31, “If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? 31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” God has already clarified that the meat itself was never a pro...

Day 7

God has made it clear that our life choices are to bring Him glory. We read today in 1 Corinthians 10:32–33, “Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.” God gives another warning, that as ...
