Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 10:24

When we have a Christlike mindset, we think and act differently than when we have a fleshly mindset. God reminds us of this fact in Romans 8:5–8, “For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” The Christians in Corinth had their minds set more on the flesh than on the Spirit. God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:24, “Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.” God has always called every one of His children to a life of self-denial, to willingly crucify ourselves, and submit to His Holy Spirit within us. God had Paul write it this way in Romans 15:1–2, “Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. 2 Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.” The way we think sets our lives on a course that honors our Lord God Almighty and leads us to serve others or our mindset can lead us down a path that simply satisfies ourselves—we must choose wisely.

Challenge & Application

What does self-denial look like for you, and how are you practicing it daily in your walk with Christ? How are you honoring our Lord each day, and how are you serving Him by serving others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God used Paul as His writer to provide His Truth to the Christians in Corinth and all other Christians ever since. As God led Paul to write, God was lovingly rebuking the Christians in Corinth for their fleshly mindset. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:23, “All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not al...

Day 3

Remember that in last week’s devotions, God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:20–21, “No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lor...

Day 4

God knows that He has called us to be His witnesses to everyone He brings across our path and to everyone He sends us to reach. Our Lord Jesus told us in Acts 1:8, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of ...

Day 5

God has clearly shown us that, as Christians, we must engage with lost people to be able to share the love of Christ with them. God used Paul to teach the Christians in Corinth how to live among the lost in their city and how to engage with those who worshipped idols. God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:28–29, “But if anyone says to you, “...

Day 6

God has Paul ask a great question and then give an incredible answer. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:30–31, “If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? 31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” God has already clarified that the meat itself was never a pro...

Day 7

God has made it clear that our life choices are to bring Him glory. We read today in 1 Corinthians 10:32–33, “Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.” God gives another warning, that as ...
