Day 1

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 10:23

God used Paul as His writer to provide His Truth to the Christians in Corinth and all other Christians ever since. As God led Paul to write, God was lovingly rebuking the Christians in Corinth for their fleshly mindset. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:23, “All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify.” Most of the Christians in Corinth lived with a mindset of wanting to know how much they could get away with and still be Christians. They were not pursuing their intimacy with Christ, but they were pursuing their fleshly desires while still thinking they could be in right fellowship with God the Father through Christ. God wanted them to understand that even though things might be morally allowed, it did not mean that those things were beneficial or even preferred. It’s the difference between thinking, “Is there anything in this that can harm me?” compared to thinking, “Is this going to help me grow in my intimacy with my Lord Jesus Christ and His Word?” Although things might have been lawful, God wanted the Christians in Corinth (and us today) to understand that not all things are constructive in building us up in our walk with Christ. God wants all of His children to pursue those things that edify our spiritual lives as well as the spiritual lives of those we encounter. We must not live thinking about how much of the world we can enjoy and still remain pure before God, but we must constantly pursue our fellowship with our Lord. Challenge & Application

Challenge & Application

What was the problem with the way the Christians in Corinth were thinking? How can we guard against the same mindset that the Christians in Corinth had, and how can we pursue Christ and His Word?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

When we have a Christlike mindset, we think and act differently than when we have a fleshly mindset. God reminds us of this fact in Romans 8:5–8, “For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, b...

Day 3

Remember that in last week’s devotions, God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:20–21, “No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lor...

Day 4

God knows that He has called us to be His witnesses to everyone He brings across our path and to everyone He sends us to reach. Our Lord Jesus told us in Acts 1:8, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of ...

Day 5

God has clearly shown us that, as Christians, we must engage with lost people to be able to share the love of Christ with them. God used Paul to teach the Christians in Corinth how to live among the lost in their city and how to engage with those who worshipped idols. God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 10:28–29, “But if anyone says to you, “...

Day 6

God has Paul ask a great question and then give an incredible answer. We read in 1 Corinthians 10:30–31, “If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? 31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” God has already clarified that the meat itself was never a pro...

Day 7

God has made it clear that our life choices are to bring Him glory. We read today in 1 Corinthians 10:32–33, “Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; 33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved.” God gives another warning, that as ...
